MakoLab is a digital project house, a team of technology experts accomplishing projects in the digital transformation field. Our priority is providing our clients with the best possible support so that they can achieve their business goals. Our focus is on building effective and lasting bonds between brands and their users by applying digital tools to solve current tasks and problems. We take on digital transformation projects for global concerns and sector leaders. Our solutions are providing support to clients from more than ninety countries around the world, particularly in the automotive, financial, real estate and consumer goods sectors.

Where do we operate?

Our solutions are present worldwide, while direct deployments have been conducted by our specialists in over 90 countries. The company’s headquarters, development center and data center are located in Łódź. We have offices in Paris and London (where we have operated as MakoLab UK Ltd since 2014). Since 2016, we have also conducted business via our subsidiary in Tampa, Florida (MakoLab USA, Inc.).

For whom do we work?

We work for the biggest global corporations, as well as local industry leaders. Our main clients are such leaders as Renault-Nissan Alliance or Toyota, for whom we are proud to provide global solutions, being also responsible for their deployment in tens of countries around the world. The strategic areas of our operation include the automotive and financial industries, as well as insurance, commercial real-estate markets and the broadly understood field of lifestyle services.

How are we doing? 

Since its founding, the company has been growing on a consistent pace. Because we are a public entity, our finances are transparent and freely accessible. In 2019, our revenue equalled 43,4 mln PLN, 74% of which originated from export. We are one of Poland’s largest independent digital agencies.

MakoLab is a group of over 270 people, 85% of which are high class specialists – developers, information architects, designers, visual artists, project management experts and database specialists.

What are our subjects of innovation and R&D?

We are among the pioneers and leaders in the field of development and deployment of Semantic Web solutions in Poland, which continue to influence the digital market, e.g. in search engines. Our experts, including the company’s founder Mirosław Sopek, PhD, are involved in many organizations and think-tanks (for instance working on the schema.org standard) which establish directions of development for the modern Web.

Close cooperation with Hepp Research GmbH, represented by the world-renowned Semantic Web expert, Professor Martin Hepp, resulted in the development of MakoLab’s “Car ” extension for schema.org, officially implemented in schema.org 2.0.

The following edition, schema.org 3.0 brought the implementation of fibo.schema.org extension – the financial ontology FIBO, developed by EDM Council and MakoLab – as the project leader.

The works of our laboratory of innovation have brought the launch and the development of LEI.INFO – a web application dedicated to storing and presenting the information hidden under the unique Legal Entity Identifier (LEI). The app is based on GLEIO – the ontology for entities identification, built by MakoLab and awarded by the top global expert forums.

Identification and the connected data security is also the focus of constant research and Blockchain technology development - in MakoLab applied in the area of building trusted identification systems. Constatnt research run in this field have resultetd in building a new invention - GraphChain (a blockchained Graph Database). 

MakoLab – history in a nutshell

1989 – founding of the company under the name Mako Typesetting – specializing in high-end print and publishing services. 

1993 – the company is renamed to MakoLab and begins sales operations in the field of scientific applications, as well as other areas of software.

1995 – beginning of development operations in the field of advanced scientific software and commencement of cooperating with HyperCube (Canada/SUA) and  Fujitsu Kyushu System Engineering (Japan).

1996 – Internet services enter the company’s offer. Creation of websites, including one of Poland’s first banking portals for Bank PBG.

1997 – beginning of operations of the company’s own Data Center.

1998 – commencement of cooperation with Philips; design of a website for Philips Lighting Poland and creation of MakoCRM – a system for management of international projects and loyalty programs.

2001 – cooperation with Renault begins with creation of Intranet and Extranet solutions for the corporation’s Polish department. In the next few years, websites for Renault Polska (2002), Renault Austria and Renault Switzerland (2004) were developed.

2003 – creation of MakoLab’s original solution RSI-CMS for Renualt, deployed and continuously extended in over 60 countries around the globe. MakoLab’s first ERP-class distributed business system is created for Point-S: MegaSale/MegaManage (later known as Fractus).

2004 – commencement of cooperation with RCI-Banque in the area of financial simulators.

2005 – creation of ColDis, a system supporting management of large shopping centers, deployed in 12 of Poland’s biggest shopping centers managed by Cefic.

2007 – debut on the NewConnect market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange in Warsaw on December 21st, 2007.

2008 – creation of the website for Renault UK with LMT and e-commerce modules, distinguished in the Auto Trader Website Usability Study (part of the renowned Guardian Media Group) as the best website in the automotive industry.

2009 – deployment of MakoLab’s original system Fractus 2.0.

2011 – commencement of cooperation with Hepp Research GmbH in the field of application of the GoodRelatons ontology in e-commerce, and beginning of works on extending the offer with semantic functionalities.

2013 – partnership with Sitecore and realization of international projects in USA (NuSil) and Lithuania (PZU Lietuva). Founding of the joint venture Chemical Semantics Inc. in Florida (USA).

2014 – commencement of cooperation with Digitas LBI in the project of a global change in identification and online communication methods of brands belonging to Renault-Nissan.

2015 – development and publishing of MakoLab’s “Car” extension for schema.org.

2016 - development of schema.org extension for the Finance industry, based on the financial ontology FIBO – Mirek Sopek, PhD being the leader of the international team of experts.  

2017 - s
trengthening the teams abroad and the launch of another Polish MakoLab site - Lublin Delivery Center, concentrated on R&D projects. First projects delivered by MakoLab USA. MakoLab becomes an ISO 27001-certified company.

2018 - Company relocation to a modern and project-friendly Ogrodowa 8 office in Łódź. R&D announces the creation of GraphChain - a blockchained Graph Database.

2019 - Extending the financial simulation offer with new products, e.g. Budget Calculator – a tool that matches the products offer to the budget set by the user. R’n’D development: engagement with Data Coalition and Sovrin, winning the European Comission call for tender for support in building financial ontology through machine learning.
